Panel and service work
Three kinds of job make up most of what we do. Each has its own page, with the signs, the steps and how it is quoted.
A new panel on the same wall when the old one is full, scorched or a Federal Pacific or Zinsco.
A new meter base, mast and a bigger panel when the house has outgrown its service.
Room for a heat pump, EV charger or ADU without overloading the main panel.
A dedicated 240-volt line to a charger, heat pump or induction range.
A protector wired in at the panel, with its own labeled breaker.
A written look at the panel, meter and grounding when an inspection flags them.
Before you pick a job
Does my panel need replacing?
Not always. A panel that is full, shows scorch marks, carries a brand with a history of breakers that fail to trip, such as Federal Pacific or Zinsco, or can't take a new heat pump or EV charger is a candidate. The load check settles it: we measure what the house draws, open the cover and photograph what is inside before we recommend anything.
Do I need a bigger panel for an EV charger or heat pump?
It depends on the load check. Many houses can take one new 240-volt circuit. Two or three big loads together, such as a heat pump, a charger and an induction range, often need a larger service. We run the numbers before we quote and put the result in writing.
Not sure which job it is?
Text a photo of the panel and meter. We'll tell you which job it looks like, and the load check confirms it.
